The SMS Band program is an equal opportunity organization. Students learn how to read music and play a wind or percussion instrument. Students are expected to provide their own instrument (with some exemptions for Tuba and Baritone) as well as their own band method book. The bands perform about 4-5 concerts per year playing a wide variety of band music from classical songs to more contemporary music like Beyonce or rock and roll.

Anyone can join band in the 6th grade- they must provide their own instrument and band book (Mr. Brockington can provide recommendations.) In 7th and 8th grade, anyone wishing to join band should get permission from Mr. Brockington first. They should also be prepared to work hard because they will have to make up two years of band instrument practice.
